  • Abstract:

The amino acids profiles of Alestes baremose, Marcusenin Senegalensis, Auchenoglanis biscutatum, Hydrocynus brevis, Hydrocynus forskalis, Chrysiscthys nigrodigitatus, Chrysichthys aratus, Synodontis schall, Synodontis membranecious, Schilbe intermediids, Labeo coubie, Hyperopsis bebe occidentalis, Distichodus nostrastus and Sarotherodon galileus were characterized using Electrospray ionization (ESI) technique to decipher their nutritional value (amino acids compositions). 30% essential amino acids were found in Alestes baremose, Auchenoglanis biscutatum and Labeo coubie. Non-essential amino acids are dominant in Marcusenin Senegalensis, Sarotherodon galileus, Alestes baremose, Hydrocynus brevis and Synodontis schall. The branched chain amino acids were present in Labeo coubie, Chrysichthys aratus and Alestes baremose in appreciable quantity. Generally the fish species exhibited extreme variability in their amino acids arrangements.
