  • Abstract:

Despite government policy to provide adequate education for all people with special needs in
order to fully contribute their own quota to the development of the nation, Nigerians exhibit gross ignorance
of rehabilitation, and parents are not totally committed to the plight of their disabled children. Therefore, the
paper examined the utilization of vocational rehabilitation centers towards enhancing employability skills of
special needs learners. A descriptive survey research design and duly validated structured questionnaire on 5
points Likert scale was used for data collection. The population for the study consists of 98 rehabilitees and
teachers/instructors in the southwest, Nigeria. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and
independent sample t-test to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The study revealed that to
carry out any standard design or construction project efficiently and effectively, competency is required to
utilize the tools, materials, and equipments. This is the level at which acquired knowledge assists or guides
rehabilitees to perform required tasks to the expected standard but this knowledge is inadequate or not enough
and this is where the individual learning plan and instruction is required for the rehabilitees to move seamlessly
between real-world work experiences. It was recommended that financial assistance be made to assist trainees
in establishing and managing their own business. Also, employment of qualified vocational personnel must be
made to enhance the employability of rehabilitees.
