Synthesis of small drug molecules in a few steps is essential to medicinal
chemists. Here we synthesized six new potential drug molecules 6-chloro-2-pyrone 20a-c/21a-c in
four steps with 17-20% yield overall steps. The compounds were characterized fully and found to
agree with the assigned structures. The synthesized compounds were found to inhibit 96% E. coli
growth at 2.21 μg/mL.
