  • Abstract:

The rind essential oil of Citrus limon (L.) Burm.f., grown in Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria, were obtained by solvent (n-hexane) extraction method and analysed through Headspace gas chromatographic (HS-GC) technique. The HS-GC results revealed the presence of 43 compounds in the essential oil. The major compounds of the oil were Limonene (65.782%), Sabinene (4.557%), Beta-myrecene (1.90%), Camphor (1.63%), Germacrene D (1.139%), Bicyclogermacrene (1.123%), Alpha-pinene (1.11%) and p-Cymenene (1.02%) in addition to 35 minor constituents. The result of the analysis is consistent with previous studies with respect to Limonene as the major chemical compound, but revealed the presence of many compounds not previously reported for Citrus limon (L.) Burm.f. Keywords: HS-GC analysis, Essential oil, limonene, Nigeria.
