  • Abstract:

The study examined the economic analysis of agro-chemicals marketing in Akure South and Ondo West Local Government Areas of Ondo State. One hundred agro-chemical marketers were randomly selected from the two Local government Areas and they were interviewed with the aid of structured questionnaire and personal interviews. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics, profitability analysis and regression analysis. The socio-economic characteristics of the respondents revealed that 89% of the sellers were males while 11% were females. Also the study showed that 74% of the sellers were married, 22% were single while 4% of them were widowed/ divorced. It also shows that 73% of the sellers have household size of between two and four people while 27% have household size of five. The study also revealed among others that based on profitability analysis that marketing of agro-chemical is highly profitable with an average profit of N458,451.83 per marketer per annum and that the explanatory variables explained 72.7% of the variation in the income of agro-chemical marketers. The Gini coefficient showed a high level of inequality in income distribution among the agro-chemical marketers in the study area. The problems militating against agro-chemical marketing in the study area include inadequate capital/non availability of credit, non-availability of storage facilities, fluctuations in seller prices, high interest rate and adulteration of products.
