The effect of sole and mixed cropping on growth and yield of Corchorus olitorius was investigated in field experiments at the Teaching and Research Farm of The Federal University of Technology Akure in the late season of 2005 and early season of 2006. The four treatments randomised in complete block design and replicated three times were, sole C. olitorius (Cor), C. olitorius and Amaranthus hybridus mixture (Cor + Ama), C. olitorius and C. argentea mixture (Cor + Celo), and mixture of C. olitorius, A. hybridus and C. argentea (Cor + Ama + Celo). Growth and yield parameters were generally higher in early season for sole and mixed cropping, higher plant height were obtained in sole cropping than in mixed cropping. Number of leaves/plant between sole C. olitorius and mixed cropping varied with season. Mixed cropping produced higher stem girth value and enhanced edible yield. C. olitorius can conveniently be intercropped with another vegetable without adverse effect on its yield.
