This study focuses on assessing labour productivity in quarry companies. It evaluates
socio-economic characteristics of quarry workers, assesses socio-economic hindrances to better
labour productivity of quarry workers and also determines the level of productivity of the quarry
workers. It evaluates level of labour productivity and also the various factors that can affect labour
productivity. It also evaluates the major factors on which labour productivity solely dependent. The
work made use of 50 quarry company workers from three (3) quarry companies as case studies all
in Oyo state, Nigeria. A well structured questionnaire was administered and the data obtained was
analyzed with Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). From the result of the data analysed,
it was realize that the number of unskilled labour (p = 0.000) and tonnage of granite produced (p =
0.000) per month were noted to determine the labour productivity at 5% significant level. However,
hours of work per day, number of skilled labour, number of unskilled labour, and tonnage of granite
produced were found to have a combined significant effect at 5% on the labour productivity (F =
142.648, p = 0.000). It was also evaluated that the time productivity is 42.80, level of labour
productivity of skilled labour is 1623.70, level of labour productivity of unskilled labour is 346.89
and total labour productivity is 284.66. From the data analysis, it can be concluded that the major
factors that affect labour productivity are: terms of payment, issue with supervisor, personal health
and inadequate safety measure. Number of unskilled labour and tonnage of granite produced per
month were noted to determine the labour productivity. However, hours of work per day, number of
skilled labour, number of unskilled labour, and tonnage of granite produced were found to have a
combined significant effect on the labour productivity.
