INSTRUCTION TO AUTHORS

Originality

The Journal of ChemResearch is a publication of Ondo State Chapter of Chemical Society of Nigeria and to be published Biannualy. The journal is devoted to publications in all fields of Chemistry, including chemistry of natural products, new materials, macromolecules and polymers, industrial chemistry, physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, agrochemistry, food chemistry, geochemistry, petrochemistry, clinical chemistry, biological chemistry, analytical and environmental chemistry, nanotechnology and surface chemistry. Journal of ChemResearch publishes original research papers, critical up-to-date and concise reviews on topics of current interest, and short communications. Submission of a manuscript will be held to imply that the work reported in it is original, that the results have not been previously published elsewhere; and further if accepted, will not be published elsewhere. The language of communication must be in English and spellings must be consistent with Oxford Dictionary.

Copyright

Submission of an article for publication implies the transfer of the copyright from the author(s) to the publisher upon acceptance. Accepted papers become the permanent property of Journal of ChemResearch and may not be reproduced by any means without the written consent of the Editor-in-Chief.

Manuscript

Manuscripts should be neatly typed in English, double spaced on A4 format with 2.5cm on all margins. Receipt of papers will be acknowledged. Authors will be informed of the Referee’s comments. Papers rejected are not returned to the authors.

Manuscript Categories

Full length paper (maximum: 18 pages; 45 references).
Short communication (maximum: 6 pages, 20 references).
Review (maximum: 25 pages, 120 references).

Manuscript Preparation

The format of the typescript should be as follows:-

Title of Paper

It is mandatory that the title should unambiguously reflect the contents of the paper and should not be longer than 15 words.

Name(s) and Address(es) of the Author(s)

The names (surname last) and affiliations of authors should be given with postal addresses. Avoid the use of titles for authors. The author to whom proofs and correspondences are to be sent should be indicated with its e-mail address and telephone.

Abstract

All articles should be provided with an abstract not more than 250 words. It should be written in simple languages, clear and concise. The abstract should give the scope, purpose, procedures, significant results and conclusions of the research work. All abbreviations should be avoided and if used, to be explained at least once.

Keywords

A maximum of 6 keywords must be given at the end of the abstract

Introduction

This should provide a general context for the work, explaining its significance and indicating why it should be of interest to other chemists in other areas. The literature cited must be discussed to show the relationship between the published work and the research study.

Materials and Methods

Previously described methods should be cited and not elaborately described. Details should be referred to literature cited. New approaches or methodology should receive detailed attention. Statistical methods of treatment should be mentioned if they have been used.

Results and Discussion

The Results and Discussion should be combined. The original and important findings should be stated. Results should be illustrated with figures or tables where necessary but these should be kept to the minimum. The discussion should highlight what is new by the paper. Work should be related to published articles in literature.

Conclusion

This should summarize the major conclusion that can be drawn, pointing out their significance and alluding to possible future directions.

Acknowledgements

These should be presented at the end of the text and before the references. Technical assistance and advice may be acknowledged. Acknowledgements of financial support can also be stated in this section.

References

References should be listed in a separate sheet. Authors are responsible for the accuracy and the completeness of their references. References should be cited in the text by the last name of the author (both authors if only two; the first author and et al, when more than two) followed by the year in descending chronological order. Only published paper(s) in press can be mentioned in the manuscript. References should be listed alphabetically at the end of the text without numbering. References to Journal articles, books, chapters in book, theses, etc should be listed as given below:

Tables

Tables should be typed in separate sheets and numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals (e.g. Table 1, Table 2, etc). Tables consist of three horizontal rule, with box headings centred over each column and should have a short descriptive caption at the top.

Figures

Figures should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals (e.g. Fig. 1, Fig. 2, etc). Graphs should preferably be drawn using appropriate software and presented on single page ready for mounting. These should be constructed in such a manner that they can be understood without reading the text. Appropriate symbols should be used on graphs and explained in the legends. Graphs should not duplicate the results presented in the tables. Photographs should be produced in black and white. Title and comments of the figures and photographs should be provided on a separate page using MS word.

Symbols and units

Symbols, units and nomenclature should conform to the recommendations of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). SI units should be used for physical quantities.

Submission of Manuscripts

Submission of manuscripts by e-mail is recommended in order to accelerate and simply the refereeing process. Each manuscript should be accompanied by a letter including a statement of justification that outlines why the work should be considered for publication in the Journal.

Printing Costs

Authors of the accepted articles will be required to pay the following charges and they will receive a copy of the Journal and 10 free prints of their article.
